NESS & Uncas Elementary Marine Debris Advocacy Education Program
For five weeks, NESS worked with students at Uncas Elementary School in Norwich through a grant-funded program focused on marine debris education. This immersive experience introduced students to the environmental impacts of marine debris while empowering them to take action through advocacy and creative expression.
Through hands-on activities and engaging lessons, students explored how trash enters waterways, its effects on marine life, and ways to mitigate pollution. They conducted experiments, discussed real-world case studies, and learned how small actions can lead to significant environmental change.
One of the key components of the program was their Marine Debris Art Advocacy Poster Project Presentation, where students created informational posters using debris collected from their schoolyard! They researched different marine debris problems and designed posters to educate their community on the importance of ocean conservation and keeping our environment clean. Once completed, all students had the opportunity to showcase their projects to the class and parents.

Their posters are now proudly displayed at Otis Library in Norwich, serving as a testament to their hard work and commitment to protecting our oceans!
NESS is incredibly proud of these young environmental stewards and grateful for the support of Uncas Elementary and Otis Library in bringing this meaningful program to life.
