Women on the Water
Women make up only 2% of the world’s 1.2 million seafarers and are outnumbered by men in sailing 7 to 1 (UN, 2019). Marine Mavens is here to change that.
Through this multi-month, all-female program, students gain the confidence, skills, and mentorship they need to explore and thrive in marine and seafaring careers. At NESS, women make up over 75% of our team and hold leadership roles in sailing, science, education, and administration.
We’re committed to:
- Breaking stereotypes
- Building confidence
- Creating a strong, supportive community
- Showcasing women as leaders in the marine world
The tide is turning, but there’s more work to do. Read our International Day of Women and Girls in Science feature highlighting the women at NESS leading the way in science and the sea.
