NESS Summer Camp Programs 2026

The docks are buzzing, sails are up, and another exciting summer has begun at NESS as students dive into hands-on summer marine science, sailing, and adventure sports programs in Connecticut!

Throughout the season, students take to the water to learn sailing, explore marine science, and build confidence through hands-on experiences on and around Long Island Sound. From their first time steering a boat to discovering marine life along the shoreline, every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with the ocean.

This page will be updated throughout the summer with highlights, photos, and memorable moments from each week of camp programs, so check back often to see what our young sailors, scientists, and explorers are discovering on the water.

Week 01, June 15-19

Week one of NESS has already come to a close! Our students got out on the water to enjoy sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing, while also learning about wind, watersheds, and the unique environment of Stonington Harbor.

The first week of camp wasn’t the only milestone at NESS this week. Wednesday marked NESS’s birthday and the end of an incredible 25-day fundraiser! Together, we unlocked two matching gifts and showed what’s possible when a community comes together for our students.

Week 04, July 06-10

Week 4 was packed with adventure on and off the water! Our campers enjoyed sailing and a variety of adventure sports while building confidence and trying new activities. On Thursday, we welcomed the U.S. Navy Child and Youth Program for a fun day at Ocean Beach, where campers explored the local beach marine biology and spent time kayaking. We wrapped up the week with New London Recreation, who put their engineering skills to the test by discovering which materials float before designing and building their own boats to launch on the water. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the week!

Week 05, July 13-17

Week 5 was full of adventure, exploration, and hands-on learning at NESS! Although smoky skies from the Canadian wildfires drifted into Stonington this week, our campers continued making the most of their time on the water while building new skills, exploring the marine environment, and creating lasting memories. From sailing to hands-on science activities, the fun never slowed down.

This week, we also welcomed The Foote School from New Haven at Ocean Beach. Students tested water quality, explored aquatic life, and discovered the incredible adaptations that allow these animals to thrive in their habitats. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the week!

Week 09, August 10-14

From epic mornings fishing and sailing to new discoveries tidepooling and snorkeling, Week 09 was full of adventure, discovery, and stories from the sea! Our afternoon Mixed Adventure Sports campers even enjoyed a special private tour of the Watch Hill Lighthouse Museum, led by one of NESS’s Safety Committee members. With this week’s shipwreck theme, campers explored the history of local wrecks, including the Onondaga, and even had the chance to hold a real artifact from the shipwreck!

Interested in joining the adventure?

Discover sailing, marine science, fishing, surfing, and more year-round waterfront experiences for all ages, designed to build confidence, skills, and a lasting connection to the ocean.

Youth Programs
Students build confidence and seamanship skills through year-round opportunities in sailing, marine science, fishing, surfing, special events, and more. Beginners and experienced students alike learn to work as a team on the water and explore the ecosystems of Long Island Sound through engaging, hands-on experiences.

Students discover the amazing life in the ocean’s tide pools and the crowded animal communities living right around the shorelines of Ocean Beach in New London. By peering into tide pools, students learn about crabs, snails, algae and more!

Adult & Family Programs
NESS isn’t just for kids; it’s a place for the whole family to get on the water together! Our Adult & Family Programs offer opportunities to learn to sail, spend meaningful time on the water, and experience the coast from a new perspective, whether you're trying something new or building on existing skills.

Whether it’s a student discovering sailing for the first time or a family sharing a day on the water, every program at NESS is designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and stewardship of our ocean environment.

We can’t wait to welcome you aboard!

Keeping Up With the NESS Race Team

The NESS Sailing Team is back on the racecourse for another exciting summer of sailing, sportsmanship, and skill-building on the water. Our sailors are competing in regattas across the region, testing their abilities, making new friends, and having plenty of fun along the way.
