National STEM/STEAM Day – November 8

November 8th is National STEM/STEAM Day! This day was originally founded to inspire and support students in their world of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. NESS prides itself in being a leader in STEM ocean education. As an organization, we are continuously looking for new ways to bring the students to the ocean and the ocean to the students.

NESS offers a unique education model that empowers students with leadership, teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving skills to ensure academic success. Our STEM-based curriculum includes using marine science, sailing, power boating, and adventure sports as learning platforms, on and off the water, for students from all walks of life.

"At its heart, STEM is an interdisciplinary, applied curriculum. STEM lends itself well to experiential learning. While there are many ways to deliver STEM curriculum, outdoor education supports STEM in ways traditional classrooms cannot. Our brand of ocean education takes outdoor learning one step further. We provide students with an opportunity to get out in the field and experience STEM in the real world.

NESS programs enable students with the knowledge and tools to apply STEM in their academic and professional lives through scientific inquiry, problem-based learning, and social-emotional growth."

NESS Director of Programs

"STEM/STEAM encompasses skills that are necessary in so many aspects of life, whether it is for your career, academic growth, or social-emotional skills. I enjoy teaching STEM/STEAM because I love seeing students light up when they engineer a working invention, dive into real-time data, and experience place-based education. I know that hands-on STEAM is what inspired me to do what I do, so I am so lucky to bring that to other students!"
