NESS SUMMER CAMP AND FAMILY ADVENTURES BEGIN JUNE  21

New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS), based in Stonington, CT, will welcome kids back to summer camp on Monday, June 21st.  Registrations are strong, with an increase over 50% from 2019, as parents express a clear desire to get their children back on-the-water and in-the-classroom for sailing, marine science and adventure sports.  Due to the pandemic, last summer’s program was scaled back while NESS continued to operate safely and continue its adventure program.

Space is still available for 2021, but parents are advised to reserve their child’s spot in camp soon. This season’s 10-week program features unique ocean adventures following Connecticut State guidelines for kids age 4 to 17.  Both morning and afternoon sessions are available.

Intended to spark curiosity and discovery, NESS integrates experiential learning with a hands-on focus to encourage kids to step out of their comfort zone.  This unique education model empowers students with leadership, teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving skills to ensure academic success.

Summer camp will run through September 3rd and includes programs in sailing, marine science and adventure sports. New marine science courses introduced for the 2021 season are Mystifying Miniature Microbes, Walk the Plank-ton, Whales, Tales, and Gales, Oh My!, Shore, Why Not? and Wicked Water.  Always popular, surfing and Wiki Wiki Makai classes return with a focus on learning the skills to surf and understanding how waves form.  Students will also learn to sail in their first Taste of Optis or Hartley Level I classes.

In addition, Summer Family Weekend Expeditions will bring the whole family together for a camp-like experience to explore the world of adventure sports and science at locations that may be otherwise inaccessible.  Parents and kids will have an opportunity to fish with experienced anglers, explore the underwater world by seeing and snorkeling at Sandy Point, East Harbor, or Flat Hammock, or ride the waves by boogie boarding at Napatree.   The family adventure program is available on Saturday & Sunday mornings from 9am-12pm.  Children age 4 and above are required to have a registered supervising adult with them.
