Advanced Adventures
Level: Intermediate – Advanced. This class is designed to maximize flexibility and fun using NESS’s small keelboats, larger dinghies, and high-performance boats. Pairing the best boats and skills for the day’s conditions, students will be introduced to more advanced concepts in sail trim and technique. No racing here, just fast-paced sailing on the best boat for the day’s conditions!

Hartley Sailing Adventures
Level: Beginner – Intermediate. This program is tailored to beginner and intermediate students who are a bit older than those in Taste of Optis. Students will learn basic sailing lingo, proper rigging, and beginner sailing techniques. Designed for recreation, the Hartley 12 is the perfect tool to get started in the lively sport of sailing.

Keelboat Kids
Level: Beginner – Intermediate. Jump aboard our fleet of keelboats and experience sailing as a team! Learn the fundamentals of sailing, cruise around Fisher’s Island Sound, and navigate Stonington Harbor on this afterschool adventure! Sailors will first learn to rig and then practice the fundamentals of big boat sailing. Sailors will execute maneuvers as both skipper and crew, with the guidance of our sailing instructor.

Opti Intermediate
Level: Beginner – Intermediate. Opti Intermediate students will take on the challenge of sailing solo. Helping to increase confidence and independence, NESS instructors will build on students’ skill sets and teach new techniques for sailing mechanics and boat handling. With these new skills, students will oversee their own boat rigging and controls in order to safely navigate the Stonington Harbor.

Opti Sailing Adventures
Level: Beginner – Intermediate. Looking to get out on the water in your Opti, but not interested in racing? In this class sailors will be able to practice boathandling and sailing maneuvers, such as tacking and gybing, while adventure sailing around Stonington Harbor and Fisher’s Island Sound! Sailors will reinforce fundamental sailing skills while having on-the-water adventures!

Sailing Adventures
Level: Intermediate. Grab a partner or sail solo in this exciting program designed for seasoned sailors to get up and go! Set in and around Stonington Harbor, this class presents students with the perfect opportunity to learn more advanced sailing techniques while becoming more comfortable on the water. Students can choose their adventure on different boats in the NESS fleet including: O’pen Bics, Hartley 12s, 420s, small keelboats, and more!

Sonar Sailing Adventures
Level: Intermediate. Set in and around Stonington Harbor, this class presents students with the perfect opportunity to learn more advanced sailing techniques while becoming more comfortable on the water, specifically in the Sonar! Students will get to know the ins and outs of the Sonar, work on teamwork and communication, and skippering the boat through maneuvers on their own!
