As we get ready to turn the calendar page to March, we wanted to share all our exciting March events in one place! From parades to beach clean ups, cocktail parties to contests we have a very busy March… Our very own March MadNESS! We hope to see you at one (or a few!) of our upcoming classes or events!

Wednesday, March 7: Homeschool Program – Land Sailors

Design, engineer, and compete in teams against fellow classmates as you build a land sailor that harnesses the power of wind using a sail, a PVC frame, and wheels. Register for Land Sailors

Saturday, March 10: Powerboating Class – Safe Boating Certification

This 8-hour course satisfies the CT DEEP classroom requirement for students to receive their Safe Boating Certificate and/or their Certificate of Personal Watercraft. Although entirely classroom based, the participants will get a chance to handle and work with all required boating safety equipment. Our USCG captains have thousands of hours of experience on the water and make this content packed course interesting and applicable to the real boating world. Registration required by March 7. Sunday, March 11: March is for Marching! – New London St. Patrick’s Day Parade

We have not one but TWO parades that we are attending this month. Start your St. Patrick’s Day celebration early this year and join us in New London’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. Stay in the know

Monday, March 12: Vote, Vote, Vote for NESS – Reader’s Choice Awards Voting Closes

Thank you to those who nominated us as best summer camp, now we need your help to get to number 1! On Monday, March 12 voting for The Day’s “Best Of Reader’s Choice” awards closes. We are up against some tough competition, help us get to number one as the best summer camp in the region! Vote for NESS

Wednesday, March 14: Help us celebrate AmeriCorps Week! – New London Community Dinner

AmeriCorps Week is a celebration of all things AmeriCorps – from the programs and organizations that make this national service initiative possible in thousands of locations across the country, to the members who have committed to “Get Things Done” since the national program’s inception in 1994. We are celebrating our AmeriCorps members at Brigaid’s Community Meal at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School (entrance on Lincoln Ave). Dinner is from 5-6pm (or until sold out) and $5 cash at the door (eat in or take out). Bringing your own utensils is encouraged!

Thursday, March 15: Dine Out at Dog Watch for NESS

Dine at Dog Watch Café (or get take-out!) from 11:00 am – 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 15th. Inform your server you are there for the NESS benefit & a portion of your check will be donated to NESS! Questions? Contact NESS: 860-245-4472 or give@nessf.org. Stay in the know

Thursday, March 22: Kick Off Spring at Spicer Mansion

We will be kicking off spring with a cocktail party at the Spicer Mansion (Mystic, CT) on Thursday, March 22nd. The cocktail party will feature gourmet hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, fine wines, and craft beers as well as live music and a live auction. Auction items include unique opportunities at the Spicer Mansion and other local landmarks. Proceeds from the evening will support NESS’s nationally recognized ocean adventure education programs.

Tickets ($100/person or $150/couple) are on sale now and sponsorships are available (www.nessf.org/spicer-mansion). Sponsorships are available at two levels and include 10 tickets and early access to the venue for cocktails & hors d’oeuvres in the mansion’s elegant rooms! Get your tickets

Saturday, March 24: Celebrate World Water Day with a Beach Clean Up

Did you know that there are over 5.25 trillion pieces of trash in the ocean?

Join the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), the Westerly Recreation Department, and us to clean up Westerly’s treasured coastal area. The event will take place on Saturday, March 24th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the “Old” Town Beach, located at 365 Atlantic Ave, Westerly, RI 02891. Volunteers will focus on cleaning marine debris from the beachfront and the adjacent salt pond. Rain date is Saturday, April 7th. Stay in the know

Sunday, March 25: March is for Marching! – Mystic Irish Parade!

March with us in the 2018 Mystic Irish Parade! This annual event is always fun way to connect NESS families, staff members, and friends. Rain, snow, wind…whatever the March weather throws at us, we will be a part of the parade! Will you? Let us know if you are marching with us so we can send along parking directions!
