NESS Celebrates MLK Day 2019

NESS staff and AmeriCorps members will come together on Martin Luther King Day 2019 to volunteer in honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. NESS will join thousands of volunteers across the country on this national day of service, and we encourage you to join us!

MLK Day: A Day On, Not A Day Off

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made it his mission to make the United States a place of equality and opportunity for all. He understood the power of service and challenged individuals to act. “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve,” said Dr. King. NESS and our AmeriCorps members take this message to heart each year by participating in making MLK day a day ON, not a day off!

Join Us!

This year, our members and staff will be volunteering their time at the following locations: Beechwood Rehab Facility, New London Meal Center, and the Drop- In Learning Center. We will be making cards with residents, preparing & serving lunchtime meals, and helping clean & assist with homework. In addition, the NESS AmeriCorps team will be hosting an MLK Day Afternoon of Giving at New London Elk Lodge. We will be giving back to the local community by making cards to donate to the Veterans’ Hospital in New Britain, Connecticut and The Arc of New London County.  Also, we will be making pet treats & toys to donate to the Connecticut Humane Society. Join us at the New London Elk Lodge (81 Washington St, New London, CT 06320) from 2:00 – 3:30 PM

Can’t Make It?

If you can’t join us, we are collecting items for the Homeless Hospitality Center in New London, which needs toiletries (such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, socks, and feminine care products). If you have any questions about donation items or about the event, please contact us for more information!

We hope you will join us for this National Day of Service!
