Calvary Nursery School and New England Science & Sailing Foundation Announce Partnership
Stonington, CT — Calvary Nursery School in Stonington, CT, will reopen in the Fall of 2021 and is now accepting applications for our 2, 3, and 5 day, full and half-day programs. Since its founding in 1994, Calvary Nursery School has focused on each child’s natural pull towards play by providing a hands-on curriculum that highlights learning through exploration and self-discovery.
New for 2021, Calvary Nursery School has partnered with New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) to bring NESS’s Ocean Adventure Education Programs to their students this coming academic year. This partnership is a natural intertwining of Calvary’s focus on creating an awareness of, and an appreciation for, the natural world and our role within it with NESS’s four core values of Inclusiveness, Experiential Learning, Personal Growth, and Stewardship. NESS Educators and Calvary teachers will work closely together to develop exciting lessons that will include NESS’s accredited curriculum, that is tied to both CT Early Learning and Development Standards and CASEL Social-Emotional Learning standards (SEL). Calvary Nursery School students will participate in two NESS programs a week throughout the school year, while still taking part in the beloved traditions of Calvary Nursery School.
“NESS is thrilled to expand its enrichment opportunities with Calvary and think our experiential learning programs are a natural fit,” said Dr. Eric Isselhardt, NESS’s Executive Director of Education.
“Calvary Nursery School is delighted to be welcoming families back following the past year’s pandemic, and excited to expand its students off-campus learning opportunities with NESS.”
An open house has been scheduled at Calvary Nursery School for Sunday, June 6th. Please register at www.calvarynurseryschool.net for an informational tour.
About Calvary Nursery School
Our little school by the sea was founded in 1994 by a group of parents from Calvary Episcopal Church who wanted to create a “dream preschool”. They believed that complementary teaching philosophies, including Waldorf and the Reggio Emilia approach, would provide a well-rounded curriculum and allow each child the opportunity to learn in an environment best suited to teaching to their strengths. In addition, instilling values of faith, hope, love, service, and forgiveness were important in providing children with a base from which to interact and go forward in the world. Since inception, the school has evolved but has remained steadfast in honoring the traditions and philosophies instilled, which have influenced the culture at Calvary to this very day. www.calvarynurseryschool.net
