2018 Summer Camp Preview

Summer programs don’t open until Thursday, February 1, but we have so many exciting new programs we just have to give you a sneak peek! NESS Summer Camp runs Mondays through Fridays for 10 weeks (June 25 – August 31). The half-day and full-day programs are open to students ages 4-17 and located in Stonington, CT.

NESS’s summer camp programs offer a unique combination of on-the-water and in-the-classroom lessons intended to spark curiosity, enhance learning, and encourage students to step out of their comfort zones. Summer programs include courses in sailing, marine science, adventure sports, and powerboating.

Some exciting new adventures for this summer:

Adventure Sports:

Our adventure sports offerings for ages 9-17 include surfing, fishing, powerboating, kayaking, geocaching & navigation, and more. This year there will be even more hybrid adventure sports classes in which students can experience a combination of different sports within one class. We have also designed many more fishing classes! Our fishing courses were some of our most popular last summer, so this year we have really expanded our offerings. From sport fishing for those advanced fishers to junior fishing for our youngest anglers, there is something for all our fish enthusiasts! Last but certainly not least, this year we are offering not one, not two, but THREE surf classes: regular surfing, surf team (for advanced surfers), and a full day surf program.

As always, we will continue to offer sailing classes appropriate for students ages 6-16 at all skill levels, from the novice sailor to the advanced racer. We have added quite a few new options to our already huge sailing selection! For novice sailors, we have added another week-long course to our Learn To Sail pipeline. Now students can progress from First Taste of Optis, to Second Taste of Optis, to Opti Intermediate, and beyond. Also, we have added more combination sailing classes and created a 420 Development Team. Lastly, we’ve heard whisperings from the sailing center that there may be week-long, high performance classes available this summer. Stay tuned!

Marine Science:

Parents asked and we listened! We will now offer a swim class for Little Aquanauts. The class is designed to build confidence and comfort in the water. For our older marine science enthusiasts, we have tons of new courses for bay bounders (ages 6-7), ocean explorers (ages 8-10), and marine biologists (11-15). We are excited to announce that we have collaborated with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center and Project Oceanology on a few courses this year!

Registration will open on February 1 when you can see all our programs and register online!

Classes fill fast, so interested families are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Need-based financial aid is available to make the ocean accessible to all.
