Welcome to NESS New London Community Boating! NESS New London Community Boating (NESS NLCB) is a core component of the NESS New London Initiative that engages students in immersive summer learning. Working with New London Magnet Schools and many other Community Partner organizations, our goal is to provide sailing opportunities to the youth of New London to encourage life-long learning, a healthy and active summer, and stewardship of their environment and community. Join in the fun of sailing! The skills and great memories will last a lifetime. The “Learn To Sail” does not require any sailing experience. Our sailing program provides a supportive environment where youth sailors of all ages and abilities can improve their sailing skills while learning respect for their fellow sailors, boats, and the water – all while having some fun. Students will become familiar with water safety on the docks and in an optimist trainer, while learning what it feels like to be on the water.   Over the week the students will be introduced to the different parts of the boat, knots, rigging and steering.   Pre-requisites: participant must be 8 years old or older; participant must be a New London resident or attend the New London Public Schools;

Age Requirements: 8 – 14 years old

Take the next step in the sport of sailing with this 2-week “Intermediate Sailing class”.   A perfect continuation from the “Learn to Sail!” class or a great fit for those who want to work on their basic sailing techniques. Class will utilize Opti Trainers and the Hartley 12 which is fast to rig and easy to sail meaning more time on the water practicing and refining your sailing skills. Our sailing program provides a supportive environment where youth sailors of all ages and abilities can improve their sailing skills while learning respect for their fellow sailors, boats, and the water – all while having some fun. Pre-requisites: participant must be 10 years old or older; participant must have taken a Learn to Sail Class at New London Community Boating or with NESS; participant must be a New London resident or attend the New London Public Schools

Age Requirements: 10 -14 years old

Class will utilize the Hartley 12 and Flying Junior dinghy which is fast to rig and easy to sail meaning more time on the water practicing and refining your sailing skills. Our sailing program provides a supportive environment where youth sailors of all ages and abilities can improve their sailing skills while learning respect for their fellow sailors, boats, and the water – all while having some fun. This clinic is for students going to New London High School or the Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut in 2018-19.
