NESS SEA AmeriCorps Program
The NESS SEA AmeriCorps program uses national service to engage students in STEM-based ocean adventure learning that will increase academic engagement and social and emotional gowth. NESS SEA AmeriCorps members teach experiential STEM-based lessons during the school day and in after-school programs, and mentor students to increase social and emotional skills like perseverance and confidence. Members also design and implement STEM-based, extended learning and summer programs utilizing marine science, adventure sports, and sailing as their educational platforms.
NESS SEA AmeriCorps Members serve to:
– ENGAGE students in learning by seeing and doing
– CREATE innovative STEM-based ocean adventure programs
– TEACH NESS standards-based programs
– PROVIDE student support through classroom support, tutoring & mentoring
– EMPOWER students to discover their personal best by facing new challenges
– SHARE enjoyment of the ocean and teach its science to students from all backgrounds
– ENCOURAGE students to be positive stewards of their community and environment
The NESS SEA AmeriCorps program is a proud member of the AmeriCorps National Service Network. The program is supported by the Connecticut Commission on Community Service, a partnership between the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.

Recruitment for NESS SEA AmeriCorps takes place in January-July for our service year, which begins in September. Successful applicants have a passion for serving underserved students, a commitment to community service, experience in leading sailing and outdoor adventures, and an interest in Education.
