What a fantastic year we have had!
Dear Friends of NESS,
As 2016 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to give thanks for another transformative year at NESS. We all have so much to be thankful for as we complete another outstanding year. This past year NESS continued to implement its unique ocean adventure STEM education programs in locations that include Stonington, New London, Norwich, and Hartford. NESS was able to get more students out on the water in 2016 than ever before…over 6,000!
Recently, one of NESS’s very first scholarship students shared her college admissions essay with us. The essay prompt was “Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.” She explained how NESS changed her life…
“Without NESS, I do not know where or who I would be today. NESS has become my second family. My childhood past had made me timid and sheltered in my demeanor, but by trusting others around me and letting people in, I blossomed into an extremely caring and humble individual who appreciates the good after overcoming the bad.”
NESS awarded this student a scholarship to attend our summer sailing program six years ago and she has been with us ever since. She even became an instructor to try and help others the way that NESS helped her.
In this holiday season, it is especially heartwarming to see the difference NESS is making, one student at a time.
Thank you for all your help and support.
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!
