2017 Summer Program Registration Opens February 1st

January 27, 2017

We will open our registration for 2017 Summer Programs on Wednesday, February 1. NESS summer programs run Mondays through Fridays for 9 weeks (June 26 – August 25, 2017). The half-day and full-day programs are open to students ages 4-17 and located in Stonington, CT and Westerly, RI.

NESS’s summer programs offer a unique combination of on-the-water and in-the-classroom lessons intended to spark curiosity, enhance learning, and encourage students to step out of their comfort zones. Summer programs include courses in sailing, marine science, adventure sports, and powerboating.

ADVENTURE SPORTS: Our adventure sports offerings for ages 9-17 include surfing, fishing, Boater's Ed, Kayak Snorkel, Kayak Fishing, Geocaching & Navigation, Wind and Waves, Adventure Clashes, Body, Balance & Mind, and more. This year there will be even more hybrid adventure sports classes in which students can experience a combination of different sports within one class.

SAILING: As always, we will continue to offer sailing classes appropriate for ages 6-16 at all skill levels, from the novice sailor to the advanced racer. As with this year's adventure sports classes, the sailing classes will feature more combination classes, giving students the opportunity to sail different types of sailboats during their session. One of these new combination classes, Just for Teens, will be offered to students 13-16 who are interested in trying Hartley, 420s, or keelboats.

MARINE SCIENCE - STONINGTON: In addition to our traditional marine science groupings, NESS will also offer new classes for just 13-17 year olds this year. These Field Experience classes will be geared toward older students who are looking for more research or in-the-field summer experience. NESS has also created variations of its Marine Videography class to more ages groups and has expanded its aquaculture offerings for the upcoming summer.

• WUSKENAU OCEAN ADVENTURES (WOA): WOA will be holding classes for ages 6–10 year olds from 8:30am-12:30pm. Each week will have a fun and adventurous theme, while investigating the wonders of our New England marine life both in the Salt Pond and on the ocean. Our programs promote learning, exercise, and teamwork through outdoor, interactive fun. Programs offered include marine science exploration, kayak adventures and snorkel classes. Students are guided through the program by our fully trained, certified and experienced staff members. The adaptability of weekly programs allows for students of different skill levels to be equally challenged and engaged through a variety of new experiences.

Classes fill fast so interested families are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Financial aid is available to make the ocean accessible to all.

Registration will be open as of February 1st!
