AmeriCorps Week is a week long celebration of the people and programs who have committed to “Get Things Done” in thousands of locations across the country since the inception of AmeriCorps in 1994. The NESS SEA (STEM Education Ambassador) AmeriCorps program uses national service to engage the students of New London in STEM-based ocean adventure learning.
As a part of the 2018 festivities happening across our nation, the NESS SEA program would like to take this time to interact with members of the community we serve and highlight some of the things we have been getting done with students across the New London Public School District. A day in the life of an AmeriCorps member is anything but mundane as they serve many functions. Students’ faces light up when an AmeriCorps member joins them in their classroom to work alongside them on their assignments. Eager young scientists and engineers look forward to their NESS enrichment classes and the change to get their hands on some learning! Teachers appreciate having extra ears, eyes, and hands to help engage their learners. And members value the opportunity to spread their passion for learning, the ocean, and helping others with the very special community of New London, CT.
